Polycarbonate Cutting

Production-grade polycarbonate sheet cutting for flat panels, guards and glazing. We process polycarbonate primarily on the CNC router, with CO₂ laser cutting used only on selected grades and thicknesses where it performs well, and digital knife cutting for thin films. Polycarbonate is tough, impact-resistant and clear, making it ideal for safety screens, machine windows and protective panels.

Capabilities at a Glance — Polycarbonate

Processes & Materials

  • CNC routing of solid polycarbonate sheets
  • Digital knife cutting of thin polycarbonate films
  • CO₂ laser cutting on selected PC grades (tested case-by-case)
  • Drilling, countersinking and profiling on polycarbonate parts
  • Marking and labelling options for identification where suitable

Typical Part Types

  • Machine guards & safety screens — solid PC
  • Glazing panels & infills — clear or tinted PC
  • Overlays & fascia protection — thin PC film

We focus on flat polycarbonate cutting. If your job involves bending or thermoforming, we can cut flat blanks ready for your plastic fabricator.

Accuracy

  • Dimensional tolerance typically around ±0.3–0.7 mm, depending on thickness and process
  • CNC routing used where tighter tolerances and hole location are critical
  • Repeatability suitable for replacement guards and repeat kit builds

Finish

  • Routed edges deburred to remove chips and minimise stress risers
  • Protective films kept on where possible to protect faces during cutting
  • CO₂ laser used cautiously on PC to avoid yellowing and excessive melt — only where tested and approved

Sheet Size

Polycarbonate sheets are typically supplied in glazing and sheet-stock sizes. Our CNC and knife beds are sized for full boards used in guarding and signage work, with nesting to minimise waste and keep unit costs competitive.

Why use our polycarbonate cutting service?

Set up for safety screens and guards

Our workflow is tuned for polycarbonate guards, windows and safety screens — flat parts that arrive drilled, profiled and ready to bolt to your frames or machines.

CNC router and digital knife under one roof

Solid polycarbonate sheets are CNC routed for clean, accurate edges; thin films and overlays are knife-cut for fast, clean results. We choose the process that best suits each polycarbonate job.

Honest approach to PC laser cutting

Polycarbonate can discolour and melt under a laser if not handled correctly. We only offer polycarbonate laser cutting where testing shows it performs acceptably; otherwise we default to routing so you get reliable, clean edges.

Trade-ready workflow

Clear guidance on sheet thickness, fixing details and corner radii for guards, plus predictable lead times and consistent re-runs when you need replacements.

More about polycarbonate cutting & design

Open the items below for more detail on polycarbonate cutting, CNC routing, laser cutting, digital knife cutting and design tips for PC parts.

For polycarbonate guards, use generous corner radii to reduce stress concentrations, avoid very small holes near edges, and allow clearance for fasteners and washers. If guards must be removable, consider slotted holes or keyhole slots to speed up change-outs while maintaining safety.

Solid polycarbonate panels with holes and countersinks are best CNC routed. Thin PC films and overlays are usually digital-knife cut. Polycarbonate laser cutting is reserved for grades and thicknesses that have been tested and signed off — we don't rely on it where a routed edge will be more consistent.

Polycarbonate is tough but can still scratch. We normally keep the factory protective film on as long as possible and recommend removing it only after installation. If parts are exposed to chemicals or cleaners, choose a suitable grade and avoid sharp internal corners where stress cracking could start.

Most polycarbonate cutting jobs dispatch in 1–5 business days once drawings, material and quantities are confirmed. Complex CNC jobs or very large runs may take longer, but we'll confirm realistic timeframes up front.
