ABS Cutting

Production-grade ABS plastic sheet cutting for flat panels, fascia plates and industrial parts. We process ABS primarily on our CNC routers, with digital knife cutting used for thin ABS and film laminates. ABS is tough, impact-resistant and easily machined, making it ideal for control panels, machine covers, retail fixtures and signage components.

ABS thickness guide

Solid ABS plastic sheets are supplied in a range of thicknesses for signage and industrial use. The table below reflects typical ranges we see in real jobs. Exact availability depends on colour, finish (smooth or textured) and supplier, and is confirmed at quote stage.

Working ranges for common ABS sheets
ABS type Typical thickness range Notes
Smooth ABS sheet ≈ 1–10 mm General panels, signage backers, enclosures and covers.
Textured / haircell ABS ≈ 2–6 mm High-wear panels, trims and machine covers.
Thin ABS for overlays ≈ 0.8–2 mm Control panel overlays, labels and fascia skins.

*Thickness ranges above are indicative for ABS sheets used in signage, panel work and industrial parts. If your project specifies a particular brand, grade or thickness, include that in your enquiry so we can confirm availability and the most suitable cutting method before quoting.

Capabilities at a Glance — ABS

Processes & Materials

  • CNC routing of solid ABS plastic sheets
  • Digital knife cutting of thin ABS sheets and films
  • Drilling, countersinking and profiling on ABS parts
  • Simple pocketing and engraving on CNC where required
  • Marking and labelling options for identification where suitable

Typical Part Types

  • Control panel fascias & plates — smooth ABS
  • Covers, guards & housings — textured ABS
  • Overlays & fascia skins — thin ABS

Accuracy

  • Dimensional tolerance typically around ±0.3–0.7 mm, depending on thickness and process
  • CNC routing used where tighter tolerances and hole placement are critical
  • Repeatability suitable for replacement panels and production batches

Finish

  • Routed edges deburred to remove chips and minimise stress points
  • Protective films kept on where possible to protect faces during cutting and handling
  • Engraving passes tuned for legible text and clean recesses

Sheet Size

ABS sheets are typically supplied in standard board sizes similar to other plastics. Our CNC and knife beds are sized for full boards used in signage and industrial work, with nesting to minimise waste and keep unit costs competitive.

We focus on flat ABS cutting. If your job involves bending, forming or bonding ABS, we can cut the flat blanks ready for your plastic fabricator.

Why use our ABS cutting service?

Set up for ABS panels and fascias

Our workflow is tuned for ABS panels, fascias and covers — flat parts that arrive drilled, profiled and ready to bolt into enclosures, machines or fixtures.

CNC router and digital knife under one roof

Solid ABS sheets are CNC routed for clean, accurate edges; thin ABS and films are knife-cut for fast, clean results. We choose the process that best suits each ABS job.

Material selection and practicality first

ABS is a good choice where you need toughness and machinability. We can advise when ABS cutting is the right option compared with acrylic, PVC or polycarbonate for your application.

Trade-ready workflow

Clear guidance on sheet thicknesses, fixing details and minimum feature sizes, plus realistic lead times and consistent re-runs when you need repeat panels or spares.

More about ABS cutting & design

Open the items below for more detail on ABS cutting, CNC routing, digital knife cutting and design tips for ABS parts.

For ABS fascias and panels, allow for corner radii that suit routing tools, avoid very small holes close to edges, and make sure text or engraving stays large enough to machine cleanly. If panels will be screwed down, allow space for washers and consider countersinking where needed.

ABS is often chosen for control panels and covers because it is tough, impact-resistant and easy to machine. Acrylic looks more premium but is more brittle; PVC can be more chemical-resistant in some environments. We can compare options for your job and recommend what makes the most sense in practice.

ABS is robust but can still mark if dragged over sharp edges. We generally ship panels with protective film or interleaving, and recommend removing films after test-fit or installation to keep faces clean. If parts will be exposed to heat or chemicals, share those details so we can sanity-check material choice.

Most ABS cutting jobs dispatch in 1–5 business days once drawings, material and quantities are confirmed. Larger runs or complex panel sets may take longer, but we'll confirm realistic timeframes up front.
