Particleboard / chipboard thickness guide

Particleboard / particle board and chipboard are available in several standard thicknesses. In cabinetry, joinery and signage, the most common ranges are shown below. Exact availability depends on supplier and finish (raw, melamine-faced, etc.) and is confirmed at quote stage.

16–18 mm boards are common for carcasses and general shelving; 25 mm and above are better for worktops, plinths and heavy-duty shelves. If you share span and loading information, we can suggest which board thickness is more practical before you commit to a run.
