Materials & Thickness Guide

Typical in-house materials for signage cutting, routing and kiss-cutting. If you need a specific brand or fire-rated substrate, send us the specification for confirmation.

Internal production limits

Metals & Rigid Panels

  • Colourbond and pre-painted steel — safety and compliance signs.
  • Aluminium sheet — traffic-style and framed panels.
  • Aluminium composite panel (ACP) — fascia and building signage.
  • Stainless steel — plaques, tags and industrial plates.

Standard panel sizes up to 3000 × 1500 mm.

Plastics & Composites

  • Acrylic (PMMA) 2–25 mm — letters, logo faces and lightbox panels.
  • PVC foamboard 3–19 mm — internal signage and POS displays.
  • Corflute 3–10 mm — construction and temporary signage.
  • PETG and polycarbonate — protective sign covers and inserts.
  • HDPE and polypropylene — durable industrial and safety signage.

Timbers, Foams & Soft Materials

  • MDF and plywood up to 25 mm — feature signage and wayfinding.

Capabilities at a Glance

Technologies

  • Fiber laser cutting for metals and Colourbond
  • CO2 laser cutting for acrylic, plastics and thin timber
  • CNC router cutting for thicker plastics, ACM and timber
  • Digital knife cutting for corflute, foamboard, paperboard and vinyl

Typical Signage Thickness Range

  • Acrylic — 2 – 25 mm
  • ACP / aluminium composite — 2 – 4 mm
  • PVC foamboard — 3 – 19 mm
  • Colourbond / aluminium — 0.55 – 6 mm
  • Foam, paperboard, corflute — up to 15 mm

These ranges cover most signage and display applications. For unusual constructions or composite builds, we can test cut before committing to production.

Accuracy

  • Dimensional tolerance: typically ±0.2–0.5 mm depending on material
  • Clean profiles for tight-fitting inlays and push-through letters
  • Consistent repeatability for multi-site rollouts and reorders

Finish

  • Flame-polished acrylic edges on request
  • Clean metal edges ready for powder coating or 2-pack painting
  • Masked faces kept intact for UV printing and transport

Sheet Size

Up to 3000 × 1500 mm standard bed size for most materials. Larger signage is produced in tiled or panelled sections with engineered joins.

Why choose our signage cutting service?

Built for trade and rollouts

Reliable, repeatable production for sign shops, shopfitters and builders, with clear specs and predictable lead times for multi-site projects.

All major signage materials

Metals, acrylic, ACP, PVC foamboard, corflute, timber, foam and vinyl processed under one roof so your kits arrive complete and ready to assemble.

Flat parts only, done properly

We focus on cutting flat signage components only, so we stay efficient on the processes we are set up for instead of half-doing fabrication we do not specialise in.

Nesting and kitting

Smart sheet nesting and project-based kitting cut waste and simplify on-site installation. Panels can be labelled for each store or level.

Sydney manufacturing, national reach

Production in Botany with freight options across Australia. Ideal for national brand rollouts and multi-stage fitouts.

Support with design for manufacture

If a design is risky to cut or hard to install we will flag it and suggest tweaks, so you avoid costly reprints and call-backs on site.

More about signage cutting

Signage projects often combine different materials and processes. By running fiber laser, CO2 laser, CNC router and digital knife cutting in one Sydney facility we can produce complete flat signage kits that cover metal, acrylic, board, foam and vinyl components together.

External long-life signs tend to use Colourbond, aluminium composite panel or aluminium sheet. Internal branding and reception signs often use acrylic and PVC foamboard. Short-term event and retail campaigns favour corflute, foamboard and carton board as they are light, low-cost and easy to install.

Keep minimum stroke widths sensible for the substrate and scale of the sign, maintain bridges for stencil work and consider installation fixings early. We recommend outlining all fonts, keeping artwork at 1:1 scale in millimetres and allowing for panel joins if your sign is longer than 3000 mm.

We can cut blanks that are then UV printed, or print first and cut to shape. For 2-pack or powder coated metal signs we cut, deburr and prep components to suit your finishing system. High-drop UV, spot varnish and textured effects can add depth to flat-cut signage without complex fabrication.

For typical signage cutting runs we work on 3–7 business days after artwork approval and material sign-off. Large national rollouts are planned in stages so production, printing and installation align without bottlenecks. Providing clear spreadsheets and sign schedules up front makes quoting and scheduling smoother.

DXF/DWG preferred; AI/SVG/PDF (vector) accepted; STEP for context. Units in mm; outline text; remove duplicates/overlaps; include key dimensions. Upload via the instant quote.
