Acrylic Cutting

Production-grade acrylic sheet cutting from 2 mm up to 40 mm. We run multiple CO₂ laser cutting machines, including one of the only 3000 × 1500 mm CO₂ laser beds in Sydney, ideal for large panels and high-volume work. Depending on the job, acrylic can be CO₂ laser cut, laser engraved or CNC routed/carved. Acrylic (often called Perspex) can then be UV direct printed or have vinyl applied in-house for signage, display and architectural projects.

Acrylic thickness guide

We work with clear and frosted acrylic, black and white acrylic (including matte in common thicknesses), opal acrylic for backlit work, and specialty colours such as gold and silver mirror. Overall thickness range is 2–40 mm, but many colours are stocked only in specific gauges.

Internal acrylic production focus
Acrylic type Typical thickness range Notes
Clear acrylic 2–40 mm Main option for thicker work, structural panels and machine windows.
Frosted acrylic 3–20 mm Ideal for privacy, illuminated faces and decor.
Black & white acrylic 3–10 mm (matte typically up to 6 mm) Core signage colours, available in gloss and common matte finishes.
Opal acrylic Commonly 3–10 mm (up to 20 mm) Go-to choice for LED backlit signs and light diffusers.
Coloured / translucent acrylic Usually up to 6 mm Most colours are stocked primarily in thinner sheets for signage.
Gold & silver mirror acrylic 3 mm Specialty mirror finishes commonly supplied in 3 mm for signage and events.

The ranges above reflect how acrylic is generally stocked and used in signage and fabrication. Clear acrylic is available in the broadest thickness range; most colours and mirror finishes are realistically used up to around 6 mm, with mirror typically at 3 mm. If you have a specific grade or thickness in mind, talk to the team so we can confirm availability.

Capabilities at a Glance — Acrylic

Processes & Materials

  • CO₂ laser cutting of flat acrylic sheets from 2–40 mm
  • CO₂ laser engraving of logos, text and patterns on acrylic
  • CNC routing / carving of acrylic where required
  • Clear, frosted, black, white, opal and coloured acrylics

Typical Thickness Range

  • Laser cut acrylic — 2–40 mm (clear)
  • Black, white & most colours — commonly up to 6 mm
  • Gold & silver mirror — 3 mm

These ranges reflect how acrylic is normally supplied by sheet manufacturers. Clear acrylic is available in the widest range; most solid and translucent colours, and mirror finishes, are realistically used in thinner gauges.

Accuracy

  • Dimensional tolerance: typically ±0.2–0.4 mm depending on thickness and part size
  • Fine detail achievable for letters, inlays and intricate patterns
  • Repeatability suitable for production runs and multi-site rollouts

Finish

  • Clean, flame-polished edges from CO₂ laser cutting on suitable acrylics
  • Engraving depth tuned for readability and illumination
  • UV print on acrylic with high opacity and durable outdoor performance

Sheet Size

One of the only 3000 × 1500 mm CO₂ laser tables in Sydney, plus smaller CO₂ machines for high-volume parts. Large panels can be produced in one piece where sheet size allows, or tiled if needed.

More about acrylic cutting, engraving & printing

Open the items below for more detail on acrylic cutting, Perspex cutting, engraving, UV printing and best practice when designing acrylic parts.

For reliable acrylic letter cutting, avoid ultra-thin strokes and extremely sharp inside corners, especially on small text. As a rule of thumb, keep minimum stroke widths around 1–1.5× material thickness for letters that need to be durable and easy to handle, and plan fixing points that suit your mounting method.

CO₂ laser cutting produces a smooth, flame-polished edge on suitable acrylics, particularly cast sheet. Extruded acrylic can behave differently, so for consistently premium edges we usually recommend cast acrylic. If a specific edge look is important, mention it when you brief the job.

Many projects combine acrylic cutting with UV printing or applied vinyl. We can print first then cut to shape, or cut first then apply graphics, depending on the effect required. This allows for layered signs, halo-lit features, face-lit letters and detailed POS pieces built from acrylic.

Most acrylic cutting and Perspex cutting jobs dispatch in 1–5 business days once drawings, colours and materials are confirmed. Engraving, CNC routing and printing are usually within the same timeframe, with express options available depending on capacity.
